Full Time Employees

Employees in the municipal service shall be allowed sick leave only where justified by necessity and actual personal sickness or disability; and, under certain circumstances, for critical illness in the immediate family. Sick leave credits may also be used for medical or dental appointments. Up to three days of accumulated sick leave may be used in the event of a death in the immediate family. Unwarranted use of the benefits provided may subject the employee to disciplinary action.

Convert Sick Leave to Cash

Employees have the option, on an annual basis, to convert six out of the twelve days of unused sick leave for payment. If any sick days are used, these must be subtracted from the sick days that could have been converted. Thirty days of sick leave must remain in accrual after qualifying sick days have been redeemed.

Use Sick Leave Toward Medical Benefits

Employees will be allowed to cash out their unused sick leave or use it toward medical benefits, upon separation from the City for any of the following reasons:

1. Resign with 20 or more years of continuous service
2. Upon retirement
