SNAFU - Special Needs Advocates for Understanding  ^

This is a non-profit organization that provides support, advocacy, and education.

"We purposely chose the name 'SNAFU' because we all dream of idyllic lives and how our children will be.  Then when we find out we have a special-needs child, it's like God gave us a little SNAFU in our lives...our lives were normal until we got a diagnosis....in our case it was Asperger Syndrome, a form of Autism.  I love my little SNAFU!!"  -- Shirley Nutt

Parks & Recreation ^
Ripon is located along the Stanislaus River, where river rafting and fishing are popular pastimes. Mavis Stouffer Park, located on the Stanislaus River, offers the Smit Museum,  picnicking facilities, ball fields, and a large gazebo for special events. The gazebo is available to the public on a first come / first served basis; however, it can also be rented for special events. Rental of the gazebo is restricted to Ripon residents and Ripon businesses only. Contact Sarah at 599-2108 for reservations.

The Corps Park at the end of Parallel Avenue leads to the Ripon River Crossing for hiking and biking to Modesto. And now, Ripon is home to the finest skate park in California.

Ripon has 20 parks (16 developed and 4 in the planning/construction stages totaling 321 acres).  The Ripon Parks and Recreation Department offers many organized sports programs for all ages. In 2002, the City of Ripon and the Ripon Unified School District teamed up to build the Ripon Aquatic Center. It consists of a 25 yard by 25 yard swimming pool with concessions, office, restrooms and pool equipment. The pool is located at the Ripon Unified High School on N. Acacia Avenue. While the pool is utilized by the school, it is also available to the general public. Call the aquatic center office at 599-3859 or Ervin Zador at 470-0092 for more information.

Caswell State Park, just a mile from City Limits, offers camping, picnicking, and access to the river. Also check out the National park service website.
